Some of our major
educational projects include:
Showcase of the Arts
The
League assists in nurturing creativity in school-age
children through this community outreach project. Each
spring, hundreds of school children submit original
works of art, literature and music for judging. Ribbon
awards are given at a special awards event for the
children, parents, and school faculty of these
children. The submitted works are displayed at this
event and League members provide refreshments and
beverages.
Young People’s
Concerts
League
members usher throughout the Toledo Symphony concert
season at these special concerts geared specifically for
Toledo area school children. Approximately 3,000
students attend these concerts at two different concert
times on each particular concert date.
There are usually
four YPC concerts a year located at either the Peristyle
or the Stranahan Theater. League members are utilized
to usher for these performances and a usual number
required is 30-40 volunteers to provide adequate
coverage and assistance.
Young Artist’s
Competition
The
League sponsors and funds this competition with
auditions for gifted and talented young people. The
judging is completed by a highly qualified panel of
expert judges. The winners of this competition are
provided the tremendous opportunity to perform with the
Toledo Symphony Orchestra at a scheduled concert.
Toledo Youth
Orchestra
League
Members serve as managers for both the Toledo Youth
Orchestra and the Toledo Junior Youth Orchestra. They
also assist the conductors in preparations for their
concerts.
