Volunteer Opportunities
Organized in 1951, the Toledo Symphony League’s members have added greatly to the cultural and esthetic enrichment of the community through its support of the Toledo Symphony Orchestra. Our mission statement defines our commitment to this service, “to provide financial, educational and volunteer support to the Toledo Symphony Orchestra so that it may provide quality musical performances for the entire community.”

There are numerous volunteer opportunities suited to anyone and everyone!  The volunteer choices and committees include those in youth education, official League business, and fund-raising events and of course social events and projects hosted and planned by League members.

Some of our major educational projects include:

Showcase of the Arts
The League assists in nurturing creativity in school-age children through this community outreach project.  Each spring, hundreds of school children submit original works of art, literature and music for judging. Ribbon awards are given at a special awards event for the children, parents, and school faculty of these children.  The submitted works are displayed at this event and League members provide refreshments and beverages.

Young People’s Concerts
League members usher throughout the Toledo Symphony concert season at these special concerts geared specifically for Toledo area school children.  Approximately 3,000 students attend these concerts at two different concert times on each particular concert date.

There are usually four YPC concerts a year located at either the Peristyle or the Stranahan Theater.  League members are utilized to usher for these performances and a usual number required is 30-40 volunteers to provide adequate coverage and assistance.

Young Artist’s Competition
The League sponsors and funds this competition with auditions for gifted and talented young people. The judging is completed by a highly qualified panel of expert judges.  The winners of this competition are provided the tremendous opportunity to perform with the Toledo Symphony Orchestra at a scheduled concert.

Toledo Youth Orchestra
League Members serve as managers for both the Toledo Youth Orchestra and the Toledo Junior Youth Orchestra.  They also assist the conductors in preparations for their concerts.

Some examples of our Social Outreach and Service projects include:

Artist Hospitality and Transportation
These “lucky” TSL members are responsible for delivering a Welcome basket to the TSO Guest Artist or Conductor and for providing transportation to and from concert rehearsals and their overnight accommodations in Toledo.

Orchestra Appreciation Dinner
League members honor the Toledo Symphony Orchestra musicians at an Orchestra Appreciation Dinner each May between their rehearsal and a Pops concert.  Members are responsible for making food, decorating, hosting and clean-up.

MAJOR FUND-RAISING PROJECTS

In order to provide funding for everything we do…fundraising is an integral and important part of the organization.  Each year the League makes a financial commitment to the TSO.  In addition, the League raises funds that support its various educational programs.  This is accomplished through various special and unique events, Fashion Show/Purse Auction, Parties of Note, Benefit luncheons and the Symphony Gala.

If you wish to join as a member, please mail the Membership Form with a check made payable to the Toledo Symphony League for your membership dues.
